Our 444 Hz tuner is a free online tuner running at a reference pitch of A = 444 Hz. The reference pitch is the note every other note is derived from: setting it to 444 hertz instead of the standard 440 raises the A above middle C, and with it the entire instrument, by the same amount. The 444 Hz tuner above already has that reference set — click Start Tuner, allow your microphone and play a note, and it will name the nearest note and show how many cents sharp or flat you are against 444. It is fully chromatic, so it will tune anything you can play into a microphone, from a guitar to a violin to your own voice, and it is the reference pitch that puts C at 528 Hz. Nothing to install, nothing to pay, and the audio never leaves your browser.
444 Hz sits about 16 cents above 440 Hz — roughly a sixth of a semitone, and twice the gap that separates 440 from the 442 Hz most European orchestras use. It is far enough to hear plainly against a 440 Hz recording, and still nowhere near a semitone, so nothing about how you read or finger the music changes. Every note rises by that same 16 cents. The octave above middle C, at 440 Hz and then at 444 Hz:
One number in that list explains most of the interest in 444 Hz: C4 lands on exactly 264.00 Hz, which puts C5 at 528.00 Hz. In equal temperament, A = 444 Hz is the reference that produces a 528 Hz C. That figure has a following well outside music, and whatever you make of the claims attached to it, the arithmetic is simply what it is — this tuner will get you there.

Sixteen cents is more tension than 442 asks for but still far less than a half-step-up tuning, so a standard set of strings handles it without trouble. If you keep an instrument at 444 permanently, expect to touch the intonation.
Because 444 Hz is above concert pitch on every string, approach each note from below and stop as soon as the tuner reads in tune. Overshooting is how a plain high E breaks.
Concert pitch has drifted upward for as long as anyone has tried to fix it. Stuttgart proposed 440 Hz in 1834, France legislated 435 Hz in 1859, London settled on 440 Hz in 1939 and the ISO published it as a standard in 1955 — and orchestras carried on rising anyway, because a higher pitch sounds brighter and no ensemble wants to be the dull one. Where much of Europe stopped around 442 or 443, 444 Hz sits just above the top of that range.
Its modern following comes from two directions that have nothing to do with each other. Some ensembles and soloists simply want the extra brilliance, particularly on strings, where higher tension gives a more focused sound. Others come to it through the 528 Hz C it produces, an interest that belongs to the alternative-tuning world rather than to the concert hall. Both arrive at the same reference pitch, and this tuner does not care which brought you here.

This is the setting the page exists for, and it is already at 444 Hz. The address sets it, which means it takes precedence over anything you have saved before — this page opens at 444 Hz even if your usual reference is something else. You are not locked to it: type another value in the box or drag the slider and every note recomputes as you move. If your device has more than one input — a built-in microphone, a headset, an audio interface with your instrument plugged straight into it — pick the right one from the microphone list before you start. A direct signal from an interface is far steadier than a laptop microphone picking your instrument up across the room.
The confidence threshold decides how sure the detection algorithm has to be before it commits to a note. Raise it and the tuner ignores everything it is not certain about: fewer readings, but the ones you get are trustworthy. Lower it and it will follow a quieter or messier signal, at the cost of the occasional wrong note. Working at 444 Hz you are chasing a few cents, so a reading that holds still is worth more than one that reacts quickly.
The noise gate sets a volume below which the tuner does not listen at all. Air conditioning, traffic, someone else practising in the next room — anything under the threshold is discarded before the pitch analysis runs. Raise it until the readout falls quiet when you stop playing, and leave it there.
A matter of taste rather than accuracy. The Display the slider tuner switch swaps the needle for a horizontal slider; both read the same pitch to the same precision. Players tuning by feel tend to prefer the needle, players watching for drift over a long note tend to prefer the slider.
Save settings stores your reference pitch, microphone, sensitivity, noise gate and display choice for next time. Reset settings puts all of them back to default. Note that the saved reference pitch applies across the site, so if you save here, our other tuners will open at 444 Hz too — which is usually what you want if 444 Hz is where you actually work.
